Dear Horizon
Dane Selters
How long must I stare into the sunset
Till the only thing I can see is you
Like pirates to the sea
You
are my tomorrow
Where we slip away from present
Clutches
On a bed of silken sheets
Under the light of stars I keep in masonware
For I no longer fight for the need to be chosen
A land where the sun toasts the deck
My hammock strung between masts
Will you
Come for me by storm
Stampeding across the sky on gray chariots
To wrestle in mud pits and
Decide my fate with dice rolls across a sliding table
Will I spot your
Sandy shore from afar
A paradise of crab, mango, and gold
Where my straw hut would overlook breaching whales and
I could swim in your coral lagoon
Perhaps I'll fall off the world
Tripping into your arms
As we press against a wall
And I wonder if I should kiss your blushing cheek
And that bitten lip
I call full sails
When I'd rather have wings
Perhaps when we meet
You
Can teach me to fly
