The Zoo Hypothesis
Andrew Macias
They say it's for protection, to grant us immunity,
At first, I was thankful for the opportunity.
We are given a home away from danger, a place to rest,
We are cared for and able to ingest.
Eventually I'm able to walk again in a place,
A place that used to resemble my own space.
Then we started being watched, our suffering begins to be understood,
They would look and feel sympathy for our personhood.
More and more would learn and want to understand our pain,
So, they would watch us again and again.
Then that was all they did,
Nothing else but watching and bidding.
More of us, the ones that weren't lucky, suffered elsewhere,
They never did anything about them or us as if they didn't care.
No matter what we can't change our outcome
We are simply left here to be watched by them.
